 "Career and Life Essentials  Exposition 3.0" 




The career and life essentials exposition held last July 30 was truly a great help and learning for an aspiring soon to be professional like I am. The first resource speaker was Dr. Norma Gappi CPA she tackled the topic "ACCOUNTANCY: THE FLEXIBLE PATH, TE PROFESSION THAT TAKES YOU WHERE YOU WANT TO GO" she explained the different field of accounting that she had experience in and her thoughts about each and every one of them and her advice to us future CPA's , there is government, private business, public practice and lastly academe. She said that wherever we may want to go its just a matter of choice and dedication, she also elaborated the different accounting credentials that we may opt to take and obtain in the future like CFA, CGMA, CIA, CISA, CMA, CPP. MBA, and PMP.

Next resource speaker was Mr. Patrick John Burdan CPA, and he tackled the topic " A day in the Life of the Accountant". He explained using your analytical skills, doing detail-oriented work, communicating with other accounting professionals, communicating with other teams and departments, performing technical financial work, using accounting technology. He also explained the seven steps in accounting which is the general business knowledge, up to date technology expertise, communication skills, adaptability and flexibility, creativity and willingness to help, customer service orientation, specialized experience.

The last but not the least resource speaker was Ms. Julieta I. Dillena CPA, MBA who tackled the topic about "Accounting skills you need to Succeed on the Job".  She explained communication skills like active listening, friendliness, confidence, sharing feedback, volume and clarity, empathy, respect, non verbal cues, responsiveness and she also reiterated on adaptability and flexibility and said that technological change like the rise of artificial intelligence as a critical business tool was a key driver for that trend, and you can expect that it will remain so. But now as businesses try to define and operationalize their next new normal the ability to pivot and roll with change is an absolute must she said.
